Place Value Cups

Idea from Pinterest...

Students created a "place value model" using Styrofoam cups.  We did this to show what happens when you move from one place to the next (multiply or divide by 10).

Battle of the Books

Courtney Hull, fourth grade teacher, and I took a team of 7 students to the first annual KCK Battle of the Books today at Schlagle High School.  It was fantastic!  Our students performed so well, having to answer question after question about one of 10 different books they had read.  We did not place in the top three but we are anxious to find out our place amongst the 18 elementary teams that competed.  Here are some pictures from the day.

Early on in the day...

Before the first event...Relay.

During the Relay event...

At the end of the Relay...

Second event...Family Feud.

Third, and last, event...Super Challenge.

At the end of the events...tired and hungry readers!

We left the library, went down to the cafeteria, and ate a well-deserved lunch of pizza and fruit.
After that came the awards ceremony.

Way to go John Fiske Readers!  See you next year at the BotB!

I LOVE watching our students in after school activities, it's pretty awesome!  Thank you to Coach Boswell for making After School PE happen for our kids.
